| | I am reading a book right now, by Jim Cymbala, the Pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, the church I use to formerly attend during the short time that I lived in New York. If you have note read his trilogy on prayer (Fresh wind Fresh Fire, Fresh Faith, and Fresh Power) I highly recommend them to anyone who is seeking to recharge their prayer life, and KNOW that prayer works. Presently, I am reading "Break through Prayer'. Which, to my knowledge, is his most recent book.
The reason I love Pastor Cymbala's teaching and writings SO much, is because everything thing that he talks or writes about is backed up by scripture. Moreover, he always supports the Biblical truths with personal testimonies from people in his congregation. It is my opinion, that Biblical truths have a much deeper impact on one's soul, when a person's story resonates with the listener.
This morning I was reading about 'Joy', and how as Christians, we 'should be the happiest people on earth, with smiles that proclaim God's goodness. Glum and despondant believers should be sued for false advertising- Jesus is far greater than they are letting on.' This quote is quite true, and admittedly I am frequently guilty of not possessing the 'joy of the Lord' .
The point that really spoke to me was this: Living in the Joy of the Lord can serve as a great preventive against unhealthy words and actions. If we can't honestly 'rejoice in the Lord' while listening, saying or doing something, we shouldn't engage in those activities, because they can't possibly be good for our souls.
It challenged me to look at the decisions I make a lot differently...it was good food for thought.
On another note...I Miss This Man!
